Numbers 1–20

Master the first twenty numbers with pronunciation and the patterns behind them.

Zahlen 1–20 — Numbers 1–20

German numbers follow very predictable patterns. Once you know 1–12, the teens (13–19) form logically, and from 20 onwards it's systematic.

DeutschEnglish
1 — eins
2 — zwei 3 — drei 4 — vier 5 — fünf
6 — sechs
7 — sieben 8 — acht 9 — neun 10 — zehn
11 — elf
12 — zwölf 13 — dreizehn 14 — vierzehn
15 — fünfzehn
16 — sechzehn 17 — siebzehn 18 — achtzehn
19 — neunzehn
20 — zwanzig

💡 Note: 'eins' (1) is used when counting alone. When followed by a noun, it becomes 'ein' (ein Mann, eine Frau, ein Kind). 'sieben' shortens to 'sieb-' in compounds (siebzehn, siebzig).
